President's Letter
September 2007
Kate felt helpless, watching her daughter slip away, until...
"Lord, I relinquish my child completely to You. Just as you wrestled with Jacob, convict my child, Lord..." That has to be one of the hardest prayers a parent can pray, especially when their son or daughter is in imminent danger of turning away from Christ forever. And Kate* shed thousands of tears while praying these words over her beloved daughter, Sarah. I want you to know the story of how God answered Kate's cry, because YFC/USA supporters like you were an integral part of God's plan for Sarah. Sarah had been "turned off" to Christ by the unloving actions of a former youth group. Instead, she turned to new "friends" who said they'd accept her just the way she was ... but led her down a path of experimenting with drugs and sex. She was becoming a stranger to her own family. Then Sarah's little sister, Tina, asked Sarah to join her on a Project Serve trip to Mexico. To everyone's surprise, Sarah agreed. Kate felt this was their last chance to get their daughter back. Project Serve is one of YFC/USA's most effective, longest-running programs to equip young people for ministry to their peers. Project Serve teams learn hands-on ministry in the U.S. and overseas through church building, relational evangelism, serving the poor, and more. Sarah and Tina's team laid bricks for a church in Acuña, Mexico ... while Jesus Christ laid a new foundation in Sarah's life. For the first time, Sarah saw people her own age who were passionately excited about Jesus and ready to live out their passion in loving service to others.
But the change didn't stop with Sarah's life. "Sarah's boyfriend started coming to church regularly and gave his heart to the Lord. Jake and Sarah were married and gave us the world's cutest grandbaby. Now they're starting a small group Bible study for young married couples at our church." Sarah is living proof that no one can influence a young person -- for good or evil -- more than another young person. She's also proof that when a young person gives his or her whole heart to Christ, the ripples spread in all directions! YFC/USA supporters just like you helped make Sarah's trip possible. Your prayers and gifts give young people like Sarah the opportunity to experience Christ's transforming love through ministries like Project Serve. And right now, we have far more requests from volunteers and ministries around the world than we have the resources to plan for and implement. That's why I'm asking for your help again today. We need to keep expanding Project Serve and our other ministries so that no young person like Sarah is lost. Will you renew your support with another gracious gift today? "When I look into the eyes of my grandson, I see the Lord," Kate says. "I know His promises are real." Let's help more young people, their families, and their communities discover that the Lord's promises are real! To reach every young person,
Dan Wolgemuth P.S. If you'd like to learn more about Project Serve, see the enclosed response form. Your support today can have a tremendous impact on a young person like Sarah. Thank you for helping them become passionate ministers to their peers! *The family's names have been changed to preserve their privacy. |
