CAMPUS LIFE
Reaching young people on high school campuses across the nation.
The YFC Campus Life ministry combines healthy relationships with creative programs to help senior high young people make good choices, establish a solid foundation for life, and positively impact their schools. Like every ministry of YFC, Campus Life seeks to engage these young people wherever they are found as life-long followers of Jesus Christ. Campus Life is a place for high school students to have fun, make friends and talk about matters to other high school students. Campus Life provides a balanced approach - physical, mental, social and spiritual - to give teens the skills and hope they need to live in a turbulent world. Campus Life club generally meets in various homes each week, hosted by students. In some cities, Campus Life may own a building they use to host club meetings, or have access to a school gym, cafeteria or classroom, or, less frequently, churches.
CAMPUS LIFE [M]
Reaching young people in Middle School and Junior high.
Campus Life [M] offers junior high and middle school students opportunities for friendship, fun, and growth. Club meetings can be a great time to meet and "hang out" with kids from school, and a chance to talk about what's important to them. Besides weekly, topical meetings, there are area events, trips and special outings designed for the needs of young teens and the chance to get to know kids from other area schools. Staff and adult volunteers find creative ways to build relationships and communicate the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Staff and volunteers provide leadership that kids can rely upon, as well as, providing a positive role model.
CITY LIFE
Reaching young people in urban communities across the nation.
The purpose of City Life is to help young people to develop attitudes and behavior patterns that allow them to function more constructively in society. The City Life program emphasizes the following: 1) Teaching basic life skills. 2) Providing an opportunity for a relationship with a caring adult role model. 3) Promoting and developing positive self-image through Jesus Christ. 4) Creating opportunities for positive peer group experiences. 5) Sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While all of the Youth for Christ ministries share the same purpose they meet and interact with students in different areas. City Life meets students in their neighborhood or small community.
STUDENT LED MINISTRY
Helping young people reach their campuses for Christ.
YFC’s newest ministry model, Student Led Ministry, influences the vision, goals and practices of Christian students on high school and middle school campuses, encouraging them to become more like Christ and to see their friends and schools as Jesus would. Student Led Ministry connects YFC with local churches and other like-minded partners. Student Led Ministry uses adult coaches to help students become authentic, life-long followers of Christ who live out their faith in the context of their campus community, and naturally invite others to follow Christ with them.
TEEN PARENTS
Ministering to teen mothers and fathers.
The YFC Teen Parents ministry connects trained adults with pregnant girls and teenage parents in programs designed to help them make good choices and establish a solid foundation, not only in their lives, but also in the lives of their babies. Like every ministry of YFC, Teen Parents seeks to engage these young people wherever they are found as life-long followers of Jesus Christ. The rate of pregnancy among American teens is almost twice that of English and nearly four times that of French teenagers (Singh and Darroch, 2000). Pregnancy is only one aspect of the situation. The majority of the teens will go through with their pregnancy and choose to be the primary caregiver. We must come along side them and assist them to become the best moms and dads that they can. In 2001 there were 175 ministry sites throughout the U.S. Thousands of teenage parents are participating in local ministries. Some communities are ministering to four to ten teens while others are working with hundreds.
YOUTH GUIDANCE
Reaching troubled teens in juvenile institutions.
The YFC Youth Guidance ministry - through institutional, juvenile justice, or social service agency contacts - connects trained adults with young people to help them make good choices and establish a solid foundation in life. Like every ministry of YFC, Youth Guidance seeks to engage these young people wherever they are found as life-long followers of Jesus Christ. It is estimated that 25% of our young people today are deemed "at-risk youth," according to the National Research Council Panel on High-Risk Youth (1995). The National Youth Guidance Department has defined an at-risk young person as a young person who has experienced significant damage and is likely to damage the lives of others. A "significantly damaged life" is defined as the presence of negative influences (or the absence of positive influences) that increase the likelihood of destructive life choices.
