Highland Hills Campus Life Madness - 2008

I did not completely understand the need for ministries like Youth for Christ until I began volunteering in an after school club.  I started volunteering over a year ago and have seen the hand of God in many of the youth.  God has opened my eyes to their needs.  I have learned that young people are eager to find God.  They simply need someone to listen, love, and direct them to Christ.

A few months ago, I heard someone speak about Matthew 9:37-38 which says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”  I prayed that God would help me, a worker, to see his harvest field.  It did not take long for Him to open my eyes to youth in the after school club.    A group of the girls began sharing their lives with me and I was blown away by their vulnerability.  I realized they simply needed someone to listen.  I began praying for their specific needs and my relationships with them have developed immensely.

“Cathy” (name changed) has always stood out in my mind.  I appreciated Cathy’s individuality and the respect she showed the leaders.  I also took note of her responses in our small group discussion.  I could tell that she would listen intently to the discussions and would ponder the talks.  One day after club, I was walking out to my car and I stopped to chat with her.  We discussed issues in her life and I told her I would pray for her.  Her eyes perked up and she expressed an interest in God.  She then admitted that she did not understand Jesus.  I was dumbfounded because God completely opened this door in front of my eyes. I started to talk about Jesus, but was unable to finish because she had to leave.  Since then, I have prayed daily for her.  I cannot wait for the chance to tell her more about her loving Creator.  I cannot wait for Cathy’s life to be transformed by His love.

Please pray for these students.  Pray for their lives because they need the love of Christ.  They are faced with trials just like adults and they need to know about the hope and peace that are found in Christ.  Please also pray for the volunteers.  Pray that we are able to see where God is working and how we can be a part of His plan.  Pray that we can be faithful workers to His harvest.

Every Young Person - One At A Time

In Youth for Christ, our vision is to reach every young person.  That happens one student at a time.  Here is one student’s story of their involvement in Madness.  It's from a few years back, but it's a great picture of why we do what we do … by Kaylin, Highland Hills Student 2006

Campus Life Madness is an after school activity about the Christian faith.  I was first introduced to Madness by my step-brother during passing period.  He came over to me at my locker and said, “Are going to stay after school for Campus Life Madness? They’re having Papa John’s ®!”  I love Papa John’s®, so I went … Only because they were having Pizza!  Kevin told a lesson about Christ at the end of the time … Kevin always had really cool lessons that made me think and I liked that.

I invited one of my friends to Madness for more points in the series we were on.  My friend didn’t believe in Jesus …now my friend goes to church and believes!  That is a great feeling! I love Campus Life Madness! It is so fun, and the people are awesome!  It is really sad when it is the last day, but the Banana Blast is Super Fun!

Overall, Campus Life Madness is all about “staying intimately connected to your Father!”  Madness has touched me and I look forward to it every Tuesday after school!  Campus Life Madness should be in every school!
