Don grew up near Dodge City, Kansas on a farm with 12 other siblings. At age 17 he joined the Marine Corp where he found the Lord. They were shipped to Iwo Jima in early 1945 where 21,000 Japanese soldiers were prepared to die to defend the island. All but 1000 of them did die, and the survivors were imprisoned. But there were over 25,000 casualties (6825 of these were killed) among the Allied soldiers after Don directed Denver Youth for Christ. Then he turned YFC over to Jim Groen and went to direct YFC in Minneapolis. Today Don lives in Westminster, Colorado at age 85.
