Doug was born into a family that had already lost two children from cerebral hemorrhages shortly after birth. The doctor told Doug’s parents that they would likely lose him in the same way. But he lived and became motivated to serve the Lord. He was asked to lead the Bible quiz program for Seattle YFC in 1954 just out of high school. He agreed and later was names Director of Seattle YFC. He went to the 12th World Congress in Bristol England in 1960 with Ted Engstrom and others. They had some great rallies in Seattle. He worked with Dave Bury, who later became the Seattle Director when Doug left to go to Minneapolis. They did a Grand Reception every year, sent a Teen Team to Germany , and Doug even became the chaplain at a local prison. They produced a movie with Ken Anderson called “Beyond These Skies.”
