Fred may have the longest tenure of any African-American in YFC at 39 years. Here he talks about his experience as an African-American in a mostly “white” organization. He talks about African-Americans like Russ Knight, Bill Pannell and Glandion Carney who have come and gone. He says the attitude must change in YFC if we are going to attract very many additional people of color. He feels some progress is being made by bringing up minorities through Campus Life and City Life and bringing them on staff. Funding them over a long period of time still seems to be quite difficult. Those who make it seem to be able to speak to the white culture as well as their own culture.
