Ted first came in contact with YFC in Hamilton, Ontario as a 15-year-old high schooler. He helped out with the music and eventually went on the Southeast Asia Teen Team in 1962. After that he spent a year in Korea with Jim Wilson training young people. In 1968 he went to help with music at Winona and was then invited to West Central Minnesota YFC to help train their choir. There he met Darla, who later became his wife. After graduating from the University of Toronto in 1972, he worked with Hervey McConkey in Wilmar MN, and then Jim Wilson invited him to Geneva to work with music teams like Oasis in Europe. He and his family were in Europe from 1975-85.
