Vicky has been the development director for Central Ohio YFC in Columbus for 15+ years. She came out of a troubled background herself, so she understands the problems that inner city kids face today. Executive Director, Scott Arnold, and others on staff wanted to develop a holistic model to work with troubled inner city kids, so they settled on building a “City Life Center” in which kids could get involved in activities and even training after school. They found some old abandoned school buildings which they renovated over a 13 year period. They raised $3 million for Phase One and $7.8 million for Phase 2, which was just completed last year. Phase 2 includes a school of 300 students. This facility has enabled them to increase the number of students they work with from 100 per year to 600 per year.
