Russ followed Ron Hutchcraft in Chicago in 1969 as the first paid YFC African American. He had Tom Skinner speak in 9 inner city high school assemblies. After that all nine principals allowed Campus Life to meet in the schools. They had as many as 200-400 students attend his nine clubs. The principals loved the fact that Campus Life hosted a “Welcome Back to School” night each year.  They had up to 500 students for special events such as “The World’s Largest Banana Split.”
