Hearts are Stirring

Another incredible week at camp has come to a close. Quaker Ridge 2012 exceeded my wildest expectations. God moved through the minds of students and adults and captured 27 new hearts! I could not be more excited for the work God is doing through YFCamp. Whether or not a student made a decision to follow Christ, each one of them is walking away a step closer to knowing him.
After an emotional club and message students scattered across camp to spend 30 minutes in solitude with God. As I stood under one of the only lights illuminating the dark night I prayed for hearts to be stirred and God’s children to cry out for him. I have never experienced anything more peaceful than that solo time. At the end of the silence a worship song began playing softly to let students know now was the time…if they surrendered their lives to God they were to shout “YES”! A few dozen voices filled the night all across camp crying out, “YES!” and “YES GOD”! To quote one of the cabin leaders, “this is my new favorite sound”.
As if the first few days weren’t emotional enough, the last night students were encouraged to share how God is working in their lives. Several students stood up and told everyone of the times they had tried to or considered taking their own lives. Other students told of broken homes and anger they had built up from abuse. Each student that shared ended with how thankful they are to have a Father who is bigger than anything else. They all talked of the changes God made in them this week and the changes they wish to make when they return home.
The raw emotion and vulnerability of leaders encouraged students to open up and trust in God. Without the commitment and the willingness to let God work through them, the leaders would have struggled to help their students. Throughout the week we heard nothing, but positive responses and reactions from students. Leaders were changed as well, being reaffirmed of their abilities, discovering God in a new way, and learning through interactions with their students.
As we carry on through four more camps I ask that you pray hard for God to continue breaking down walls, building up his kingdom, and grabbing the hearts of his children. With your support YFCamp will continue to glorify God and bring his children home.

God Bless,
Sarah Dawley

Posted on August 13, 2012 - 6:26:26I often believe that I have been such a dieappointmsnt. But, know that when God sees me he sees Jesus. But, here is what I often think about. If God sees Jesus who died for all of our sins, what does Jesus see when he looks down on earth. I try so very hard to be a good person and when I try really hard, I fail. But, when I run to Jesus to say I am sorry, he holds out his arms takes me into a tight hug and tells me it is okay. Go try again but, let me help you. Each day is better than the day before.
