Preparing for the Countdown to Camp
Over the past three weeks, the YFC camping interns have been busy in the office preparing for the almost 2,000 campers, leaders, and work crew that will experience YFCamp this summer! I have had such an amazing time with the other camp interns and YFC staff as we work and share life together. I truly love going to work every day. It is such a blessing to be in a workplace with other Christ-followers where we can open the day in prayer and work together to further His kingdom daily. I have learned so much since my first day, and we haven't even left for camp yet!
Having been a camper at YFCamp before, it is exciting to be on the other side and helping to prepare for camp. My eyes have been opened to so many small details that I didn't think about as a camper, but now I understand are such a big deal! Colossians 3:17 has been on my mind daily: "And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." This verse has been a motivation to me as we complete some of the tasks in preparation for camp which seem tedious and miniscule. We know, however, that they are important tasks and God is glorified and we are working in the name of the Lord.
Colossians tells us to give thanks and work for the Lord in EVERYTHING we do. In the past couple of weeks, we have printed hundreds of DVD labels, ordered thousands of water balloons, shipped a pallet weighing 647 pounds of supplies to our first camp, and much more. At first, some might not see what there is to be thankful for in all of this preparation. I give thanks to God that I am able to print and stuff hundreds of DVD labels, because it means that campers will be able to look back at the best week of their lives where they met Jesus for the first time. The water balloons we ordered will be used during a crud war where kids will have a blast with their friends and leaders, also while metaphorically representing the mess in their lives that Jesus sees and cares about. And, that 647 pound pallet we assembled and shipped contains what will be some kids' first Bibles, props that will help the program team connect to campers, and materials so that our awesome work crew can serve campers throughout the week. I give thanks to God the Father in this preparatory work because it is small details like this that the campers won't see, as I didn't, that will open doors for them to encounter Christ and make their time at camp unforgettable.
I'm so thankful for the chance I have to be a part of camp this summer, as it I a ministry that I am extremely passionate about. It has been amazing so far and I know God has even more in store for the rest of the summer. A week from today, campers will arrive at camp Geneva in Michigan! We are so excited to welcome them and see how God works in their lives! Be praying for these campers and their leaders and the awesome experiences they will have at camp! Stay posted as we will be updating you on camp stories and what Christ is doing! We can't wait!
In Christ, Marjorie
