If it is going to be done right, I need to do it.” I have thought this and said it out loud one too many times.  If you are like me, you understand and agree with the value of empowering others in Campus Life to help carry out the mission. So, what is it that continues to make it a challenge at times to really give away key responsibilities to others on our teams?

As I reflect and ponder this, I realize that fear and pride are key reasons we do not empower. Change is hard, especially change that requires us to go to the deeper places in our hearts.  To get at the underlying causes that keep us from living out a core essential like Empowering we need to acknowledge that it is deeper issue and then ask the Holy Spirit to be our guide to grow and change.

Empowering is crucial in Campus Life.  We want more and more leaders in authentic Christ sharing relationships with more and more lost young people.  Empowering leaders makes this possible.  For this to happen, we need to be willing to let Spirit go to those places in our hearts that need to be pruned.

This week, have an honest conversation with the Father and ask him to reveal to you what might be getting in the way of you going deeper with Empowering.  Take these thoughts to your team and together wrestle with the issues that are holding you all back from a more empowering environment.

Here is an article that might help get the conversation going  with your team : http://www.forbes.com/2010/06/02/change-management-chip-dan-heath-leadership-managing-switch.html
