Have you ever laughed out loud, maybe uncontrollably when watching an up-front game or crowdbreaker at Campus Life club? I have, and actually remember faces as the room broke out in laughter. I’m sure you can think of a time like this, maybe even in the last week or month. What a great thing- laughter, with leaders and students at Campus Life. If we remember these moments of laughter at club then we know that students remember them too.

Games and crowdbreakers are fun, but maybe not JUST for fun. There is a purpose behind why we do them at Campus Life.

The world is a rough place. Laughter can bring joy, break down walls, relieve stress and build relationship like few things can. We are told to have joy, to carry the joy of the Lord with us. We know as Believers that,

“The precepts of the LORD are right,
giving joy to the heart.” Ps. 19:8

Students may not know Jesus yet, but they can see the joy of the Lord in us. May it be said of us like Paul said of the Thessalonians, “How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you?” 1Thes. 3:9

If we can provide a place for students to laugh and catch a glimpse of joy, we have done a good thing. Joy and laughter are only a couple of reasons why we do games and crowdbreakers (if you want to read more click here). Let us not forget the purpose of why we do what we do- it is important!

As we dive into “Why we do Campus Life” we want to take a deeper look at each component of Campus Life club. Six months ago a team of Campus Life staff around the country spent time on numerous phone calls nailing down the role of each component of club. Make sure you look at each of these documents as we go along in the next few weeks. (Read the “Deeper Look” Overview). There is a reason why we do what we do at club and it is NOT because it has always been done that way. As culture shifts we want to make sure that our focus and mission stay in the forefront with God’s Scripture and truth guiding us.
