What comes to your mind when you think of Incarnational Ministry?  Does John 1 come to your mind first or 1 Corinthians 9.  Is Incaranational Ministry about us becoming all things for the young people we minister to? Do we need to dress like young people, listen to their music, talk like they talk, etc?

I think most of us would answer that last question, “no”. We realize the importance of understanding the adolescent world. We may even like some of the music and clothing styles.  But, what drives us to understand the teenage world is Jesus. Incarnational Ministry is about Jesus. God became flesh and dwelt among us.  We are striving to see a young person as Christ would see him or her, not how we would see that person.

Incarnational Ministry is about Christ in us, not us.  It is about the overflow of our Abiding in Christ. We need to know our communities, our culture, the world of young people. But none of that will matter if we lose the focus that it is about Jesus in us and through us.

Check out this article and take time this week to talk to your ministry team about Incarnational Ministry.
