If there was one investment that you could make during the summer; one thing that would set the stage for healthier Campus Life ministry in the fall, what would that be?  Empower and pour into your leaders and your volunteers.  This is a truth that applies across the ‘RMA board,’ but, perhaps, even more so when we’re talking about CL Core Teams.

I had a chance to sit down with Kate Huff, who is on the national leadership team for YFC Core, and pick her brain on developing and strengthening Core Teams.  When asked to prioritize a site directors approach to building Core Teams during the summer, Kate had an interesting and simplistic response:  Invest in and equip your adult coaches (ministry leaders) to confidently lead their Core Team(s).  Now if our desire is to develop healthy and vibrant Core Teams; if our desire is to see Christian students empowered to share their faith naturally with their friends, then the summer presents a unique and exciting opportunity to invest in our adult coaches.

Here are some ideas:

• Set time aside every week to focus on identifying and equipping your Core Team coaches.

If there was one investment that you could make during the summer; one thing that would set the stage for healthier Campus Life ministry in the fall, what would that be?  Empower and pour into your leaders and your volunteers.  This is a truth that applies across the ‘RMA board,’ but, perhaps, even more so when we’re talking about CL Core Teams.Every ministry site is different, but make sure that you are carving out time in your week to invest into your Core Team coaches.  Also, it is equally important that you are spending time sharing vision and identifying new coaches to join the ministry.  I have been greatly encouraged when I meet up with local Church congregations and Church leadership to share the potential that we see in Core Teams.  You’ll find that this approach strongly resonates with parents and pastors alike so taking the time to share vision is a great use of your summer time.

• Leverage the Core Team training and resources that are available online and regionally.

There are a ton of resources available to you as you are working to equip your Core Team coaches.  One great approach is to get your coaches connected to Online Training through Impact.  Assign a user name and password to each coach and get them going.  A great place to start would be the 3Story and YFC Core trainings.   Also, you have regional and national Campus Life teams at your disposal.  Take advantage of these resources!

I’m consistently blown away by how God uses the people around me to reach lost kids…let’s use this summer to equip and empower our volunteers to pursue students with great anticipation knowing that God is faithful.
