Single Airmen Ministry (SAM)

Did you know that that 45% of the enlisted US Air Force is below the age of 26? And that the average age of the airmen who come to our Single Airmen Ministry (SAM) is 19 years old?

In 2005 Military chaplains invited YFC to bring the relational ministry style of Youth for Christ to Single Airmen stationed at RAF Mildenhall& Air Force Base in the United Kingdom. The

SAM is designed to come alongside and provide both a haven from the demands of the service and an opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ from a caring adult who has earned the right to be heard.

Airmen can be grouped into 3 categories in their faith journeys. They either have had little exposure to the Gospel, live their lives separate from their faith, or do their best to walk with God. The staff person is able to come along side all these groups of service members who are dealing with the pressures of military duty, challenges of living overseas, and high operational deployment tempo. This is accomplished by providing a ministry center on base that provides a positive environment for the airmen, and actively comes along side of the single-airmen community.

YFC desires to reach “every young person in every people group " and that includes those in the military.

Serving in the United States and 10 European and Asian countries, Youth for Christ Military desires to serve on more bases to help these brave young men and women of our Armed Forces face the unique and challenging aspects of military life.

Can you imagine leaving home between the ages of 17-20 to encounter for the first time the rigors and demands of military service? It can be a very lonely place and the culture shock can be overwhelming. Our staff supply a welcoming presence that is safe and that doesn’t require a uniform. Our SAMs staff seek to establish a sense of community built around faith, fun and friends where service members are able to enjoy Bible Studies, special events and service projects. We desire to be a place where these young adults can experience and cultivate meaningful relationships.

Our Single Airmen Ministry is committed to providing a place of acceptance, love, safety and support for our servicemen and women. One or our greatest needs is for new staff, committed to Christ, who love the military and want to get involved.
