Committed to Provide: A Parent Life Story

My name is Ricky, and I was 16 years old when I found out my girlfriend was pregnant. My family was not very happy when they heard the news – as a matter of fact, they all said, “Don’t ask me for help.” I loved my girlfriend and would do anything for her so we decided to get married.

I didn’t have a father or even a father figure growing up. I was scared and confused, and I didn’t have the first clue of what being a father meant, but when I found Parent Life, they treated me like family.

My mentor, Mike, is always there for me and helped me begin a relationship with the Lord. Mike has helped me to be a better person in so many ways. He helped me realize I do need Jesus in my life to guide me and help me be a better father and husband.

With Parent Life’s help, I have committed to do whatever it takes to provide and make sure we don’t go without. My kids motivated me to finish high school even though I worked and went to school from sun up to sun down. But I am determined to keep my family together and to be the best father God created me to be.
