Who Would Do This???

Mid-Valley Youth For Christ

Who wants to hang out at the local juvenile detention center?

1. It’s a privilege. We all have passions that Jesus gave to us and mine just so happens to be hanging out at jail with 12-17 year olds. These young adults are hurting for someone to show them real love

2. I watched my dad (and mom) reach out to at risk youth and love them unconditionally for almost 50 years. I have seen the impact my parents made on many, many lives. My heart breaks for these kids just like it does for my parents and I’ve joined them in telling these youth that Jesus loves them.

3. It’s a youth ministry that felt right. When I was 30 I knew God had put a desire on my heart to work with youth. I just didn’t know in what capacity. I left the door wide open for Him to direct and lead me. So through prayer, great advice, and the direct question from my pastor, “Why aren’t you working with your dad and Youth For Christ?” It was done; I made my choice. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years and have no regrets.

4. The need is necessary. Who loves a kid who continues to abuse, lie, cheat, run away, quit school, and has no boundaries? Incarcerated youth are a tough breed but when you get past the wall of “I don’t need you or anyone else telling me what to do…”, you find a scared, tender, eager young person willing to accept help.

These are my reasons…why I love serving with Youth For Christ.
