Committed to connections

Every day, our Youth For Christ ministry leaders in the Dallas-Fort Worth area reach local young people through two of YFC’s ministry models, with plans to launch a third ministry model soon.

Through YFC’s Juvenile Justice Ministry, the YFC DFW team meets kids in a variety of youth-serving institutions such as detention centers and probation programs. They’re building mentoring relationships with these kids by staying consistent in their lives, as the kids re-enter their communities. These YFC leaders are committed to pursuing connections that last long after they have left the facility.

“There is a huge disparity around Juvenile Justice Ministry and the Dallas-Fort Worth area,” LaToyia Dennis, executive director at YFC Dallas-Fort Worth, said. “We have more than 10,000 kids arrested annually in the area and those 10,000 kids come from 10 zip codes. That is significant with very little programming addressing the juvenile justice need in the area – we are grateful that YFC Dallas-Fort Worth offers this as one of our programs.”

The other ministry model in DFW, YFC’s Parent Life, centers around YFC leaders connecting with and mentoring expectant and parenting teens and their children.

“It is incredibly important to encourage the teens in the Parent Life ministry program, because while they're moms, they're also teens,” Rhonda Lewis, ministry director at YFC Dallas-Fort Worth, said. “That can be challenging for anyone – and at a certain age these girls may not have all the skillset yet. So being able to come in and help walk with them through that process is always a blessing.”

The third ministry model coming to the DFW area is YFC’s City Life. City Life gives a strategic way to pursue every young person in urban communities through relational, holistic, community-based ministry. Our YFC DFW team wants to see deep change in the neighborhoods they work in, and they believe this can happen by raising up indigenous leaders from the young people in that community and empowering these leaders to change their community for Christ. Working together with local leaders from churches, nonprofits, schools, and businesses, the YFC DFW team hopes to launch this City Life ministry for kids in under-resourced neighborhoods in the coming year.
