Letting Down Walls

Letting Down Walls

James, an 18-year-old connected to a local YFC ministry, came to camp for the first time this summer.

He came to camp to escape his life back home – a life that was far from simple.

His father moved away when life got hard. His mother struggles with addiction and is in and out of the picture.

James came to camp only trusting one person in his life…his brother…but, if you really knew James, you would know that his brother is a member of a gang - a gang that James has called his family since he was 11 years old.

On the third night of camp, there was a difficult altercation between James and his cabin leader. A few leaders took James into the camp dining hall to talk about it and work through the pain James has faced his entire life.

Finally, at 2:00 AM, James let down the walls and let Jesus into his life.

The struggle, the hopelessness, the fear, the pain, all of the weight James had been carrying since he was a young boy was lifted as Jesus entered the picture.

That week of camp, James, along with several other campers, said YES to a relationship with Jesus for the first time!

We are so thankful that God works in the brokenness of kid’s lives. He is not finished with their stories. All of this is a testimony to the hundreds of people across the country who have given of their time, resources, and prayers for the sake of kids at YFC Camp.
